What coaching is and isn’t

As a coach, I primarily work with women and specialize in helping them achieve ambitious goals. I’m the coach women choose when they are making huge life decisions or changes and need someone they can trust to champion them through the process. In general, coaching is a professional service aimed at helping individuals identify and achieve their personal and professional goals. Oftentimes however, people confuse coaching with mentoring, consulting or even therapy and I’m here to clear up the confusion.

Here’s a comparison of what coaching is versus what it isn’t:

Coaching is Goal-Oriented

Coaching focuses on helping individuals set and achieve specific goals in various areas of their lives, such as career, relationships, health, and personal development.

Coaching is Not Therapy

Unlike therapy, which may delve into past traumas and mental health issues, coaching primarily focuses on the present as well as future-oriented goal setting and action planning.

Coaching is Client-Centered

Coaches work with clients to identify their strengths, values, and aspirations, tailoring the coaching process to meet their unique needs and preferences.

Coaching is Not Consulting

Coaching differs from consulting, where experts provide advice and solutions based on their own expertise, as coaches empower clients to find their own answers.

Coaching is Action-Focused

Coaches encourage clients to take action and make positive changes in their lives by providing support, accountability, and guidance.

Coaching is Not Mentoring

Coaching is distinct from mentoring, where a more experienced individual offers guidance and advice based on their own experiences, as coaches collaborate with clients rather than provide direct solutions.

Coaching is a Process

Coaching sessions primarily focus on the present and future, helping clients overcome obstacles, develop new skills, and create a roadmap for success. The process of coaching takes time and dedication.

Coaching is Not a Quick Fix

Coaching is not a quick fix or a magic solution to all of life's challenges, as coaching provides long-term growth and transformation rather than immediate results.

Coaching is Tailored and Confidential

Coaching sessions are tailored to the needs of each client and completely confidential, creating a safe and non-judgmental space for clients to explore their challenges, fears, and aspirations.

Coaching is Not One-Size-Fits-All

Coaches adapt their techniques and strategies to meet the individual needs of each client, contrasting with standardized, one-size-fits-all approaches, such as self help books or prerecorded “coaching programs.”

In summary, coaching offers a client-centered, goal-oriented, action-focused approach to personal growth and development, contrasting with therapy, consulting, mentoring, quick fixes, and one-size-fits-all approaches. Coaching empowers clients to take proactive steps towards their goals, fostering self-discovery, empowerment, and long-lasting change.

The best way to truly understand coaching is to experience it for yourself. Schedule a complimentary consultation today and if we discover we are a good match I will provide you with a complimentary coaching session before you commit to purchasing a program.
